Club update | Covid guidelines, competitions, coaching and more

It’s been brilliant to see our courts busy again and plenty of members making the most of the lifted lockdown restrictions over the past few weeks.

Now the dust has settled, we wanted to send out an update on how we’re operating as a club, alongside a few things to look forward to.

Clarification on our Covid guidelines

We’re almost back to business-as-usual, with most major restrictions now being lifted. This means:

• Children are now allowed in the bar area

• We’ll continue to log who’s visited the bar - this is part of our track and trace requirements

• There’s still a limit of 25 members in the bar at any one time. This allows us to maintain effective social distancing.

• Please continue to follow best practice when it comes to hygiene. Wash hands before and after playing, use our hand sanitiser stations and clean the door handles on squash courts after playing.

Club competitions

We will be kicking these off very soon, starting with the Club Squash Competition in June, followed by the Club Racketball Competition, then our Handicap tournaments.

We’re also looking to put a single-day squash tournament on one weekend in either June or July.

More information will follow soon on these. Keep an eye out for future updates.

Coaching

After many years of dedicated regular coaching on a Monday evening, Kev will be enjoying some well deserved rest (with a holiday home on the east coast, no less!).

Rob Ellis will now be taking over Kev’s Monday evening sessions. Please drop Rob a WhatsApp on 07730 398 683 if you’d like to book onto a session. 6.30-7.30pm will cater towards juniors, new players and players hoping to start playing league squash. 7.30-8.30 will be catered towards Metro League through to Yorkshire League players. Max 6 players per session.

Rob will also be running our Saturday morning sessions, taking place from 10am-12.00pm. These will also be charged at £5. Everyone is welcome - it’s a great opportunity to train with a variety of players and get up to speed on court. They’re lots of fun and will really help develop your game.

Round Robin

We've made some changes to our Sunday evening Round Robin. After consulting with players, we have decided to break it into two sessions. Racketball will be 6.00-7.30pm, and squash will be 7.30-9.00pm. This is to help ensure each sport has equal time and space on our courts.

Improvements to our showers

We’re happy to let everyone know that we’re making further renovations to our showers. To give members and visiting players extra privacy, we’ll be adding two shower cubicles in both the men’s and women’s changing rooms. We expect this work to be completed within the next couple of weeks.

Much more to come

We’re looking forward to a busy year at Rothwell Squash Club. The Racketball summer league is due to start soon, and we’re hoping squash leagues will return in September. As well as this, we’ll soon be planning in our AGM, a great opportunity to share your views as a club member.

Again, thank you to everyone who’s helped bring the club back to life since we re-opened our doors. It’s been great to see many familiar faces (and some new ones too!).
